THE FUTURE PROSPERITY

Preacher:
Series:
Passage: Jeremiah 31:23-30

We give God the praise for another blessed Sunday in His presence and for a new part in our series. We have so far treated “Worship Him All Ye Gods” and “The Present Suffering,” and today by His grace, we shall be talking about “The Future Prosperity.”

This passage we just read speaks volume about a future hope, irrespective of the current condition and situation. It speaks about future restoration because God promised to bring His people back from captivity.

We know there was a beauty the world carries from when God created it. There was also a sanctity that the earth created by God has, for the Bible says everything God created was good.

However, you and I know today that the world God created is not what we have now, as much of it is laid in ruin, and we are all hoping for a new world. We know this world is filled with ruin because it is filled with unjust, cruel, and bloody men.

And such was the case with the people of Judah, whose town was filled with unjust, cruel, and bloody men, those who are filled with rebellion, who will go extra miles in forsaking their Maker by going after other gods. And unfortunately, their works led them into captivity.

Until someone loses his freedom, his right, such a person will not know what it meant to live a new life again. Hence the reason, even though God sent Jeremiah to tell these folks about the impending judgment coming upon them, He also let them know that there will be a future hope no matter what their sins or the sins of their fathers might have cost them.

And that is why God promises to bring His people back from captivity, refresh the weary, rebuild what was torn down, and make them prosper again.

As far as I know, one major thing that can make anyone in captivity to remain in captivity forever is if he or she is too proud to humble themselves before God, because our God is a merciful God who will always be merciful to us and promise a future hope to as many as those who will return back to Him, even though we are still the ones at fault.

Even though the land of Judah has become the land of idolaters, a place where no one wants to hear about God anymore, God is still saying, “In the midst of their punishment, I will still remember you and prosper you.”

Isn’t this what God is still doing for us today? When we are faithless, when we desert Him, when we go after our heart, when we go with the world and get caught up with the world, in His mercy, He remembers us in our lowly state and still promises us a better future.

No wonder the Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11, “I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, the plan of good and not of evil, to bring you to an unexpected end.” And that is why, even though our sins, the sins of our fathers, the sins of our cities, our families, our nations might have led us into captivity,

We know that there is a future prosperity promised to as many as those who are willing to humble themselves and embrace God wholeheartedly. For there is one thing to know God from afar. However, there is another thing to know God intimately.

Those who know God from afar most of the time end up in captivity, but those who know God intimately are the ones who will enjoy the blessings of the Lord.

That said, we have a promise of a better tomorrow, a promise of a future prosperity from the One who will make all things new for us. And some of the promises are the lost blessings which are no longer seen—

Lost justice and holiness which are no longer seen in us, lost relationship we are no longer seeing in us, lost satisfaction in God’s blessing, lost joy, and more like it.

God is ready to restore the weary soul and to replenish the sorrowful soul. He is ready to re-establish those whose position has been taken away from them. He is ready to do a new thing, to sow into your life His riches and blessings again.

What the enemy thought he has uprooted, plucked up, broken down, thrown down, afflicted, and destroyed, the Lord said He will build and plant again, and you will now be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bring forth its fruit in its season.

Beloved, I am here to tell you this morning that it is no longer about what your afflictions have cost you, what your shortcomings have cost you, what your pride and not taking God seriously have cost you.

For the Lord is coming through for you, somebody, to build you up, to plant you, to restore, satisfy, replenish you so that every good blessing that has departed may be restored.

So that there will be prosperity in your life again. The future prosperity of God over your life shall be revealed, and you will laugh again, somebody. The blessings of the Lord which you have enjoyed before will be multiplied and be released to you, beloved, and you will celebrate.

It will no longer be about what your fathers have done. They might have been the ones who ate the sour grapes and your teeth were set on edge. The prosperity coming your way will remove off your head the punishment of others.

For you shall prosper again. You shall be blessed again. God is making all things new for you again, and you will not be put to shame.

So do not let any limitation keep you in captivity, beloved, because the way from the bondage of sin to the liberty of God’s children is a highway that is plain and safe. However, none are likely to walk in it unless they set their hearts towards it.

Set your heart towards the way to liberty and become prosperous again.
