THE PRESENT SUFFERING

Preacher:
Series:

We give God the praise for the second part of this series. Last week we spoke about “Worship Him All Ye Gods,” and today by His grace, our topic is “The Present Suffering.”

The message of today is a message of hope to the hopeless, the message of acknowledgement that God sees you in the midst of what you are going through, the message to let you understand that your present suffering will not be able to overpower your latter glory, for God will make all things new for you.

As a child of God, what does present suffering mean to us? Present suffering is a temporary trial that will pass away. The Bible says in the book of 1 Peter 5:10 that after you have suffered a while, we shall be perfect, established, strengthened, and settled.

And what that is telling us is that no matter what we face, no matter what the circumstance or situation is for us, there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel.

The message this morning is to let you know that there is no child of God who is going through their test of time who God does not have a happy ending for. And the state of difficulties does not mean abandonment but rather builds spiritual endurance for us, the type that draws us into closer fellowship with Christ.

And for this reason we cannot but rejoice and be glad in the midst of it all as the joy of the Lord is our strength. For someone who knows that all things will be made new for them never dwell on the negatives that comes from their present suffering.

They never draw strength from their present suffering. And knowing that this too shall pass because the Lord is on the throne is what will make you focus on the new things God is about doing.

No wonder Apostle Paul called our present suffering, current hardships temporary and light. They are momentary troubles when stacked against what God has in store for us, when stacked against what God will soon reveal in us.

One thing we must know is that there is nothing in this world that has no expiration date, except the eternal joy of Christ. Talking about pain, it has an expiration date as it belongs to this broken present world and will vanish.

Talking about trials, we know Jesus has conquered it for us and all we need to do is to rejoice in the joy of the Lord which has become our strength. I know one thing for sure: dwelling on your suffering can make someone not push hard for a way out because of the belief that suffering will not end.

Hence the reason, we must know that our hard times are only teaching us patience and endurance as we build ourselves up in Christ Jesus. Those who know this have the upper hand in seeing all things that are suffering become enjoyment and peace for them.

For someone who wants his current battleground to become a place of peace, for someone who wants his heart of sorrow to be replaced with a heart of joy, I will encourage you to look unto Jesus, the One who sits on the throne, who has what it takes to make all things new.

What is that thing that you call suffering? I want to let you know that it’s not here to stay. It is not here to ruin your life. It is not here to destroy you. It is not here to eat you up like cancer. No matter what it is, somebody, that thing you called suffering has no choice but to bow to the God you serve, somebody.

This is what I want you to declare as you continue in your journey in life: no matter what it is, it will pass. According to the book of Isaiah 26:19-20, which says: “Your dead will live; their bodies will rise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust! For your dew is like the dew of the morning, and the earth will bring forth her dead. Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, until the indignation is past.”

So all you gotta do is to come into God’s presence with your suffering, with your situation. Enter into His chambers from your chamber. Shut the door against your sufferings behind you. Hide yourself in His presence. Forget your pain. Forget the anguish. Forget the agony as it were for a little moment until the suffering is no more, until He takes care of it all for you.

For what the Bible says is that your dead will live. Their body will rise. You will sing again. You might have been covered in dust, dwelling in the dust, but you will awake and sing again. The rain will shower over you again. And your tears shall be no more.

We cannot afford to dwell on the present suffering. Though it may look like it is taking forever, the day is coming and it is now when the sons of men will ride on horses again, for the earnest expectation of the creation awaits your revelation.

There will be no more suffering. Come on, somebody, tell it to yourself: it will pass. It is for a limited time. It will pass. It is not here to stay. For God will make all things new.

So according to Joel 3:10, let the weak say, “I am strong.” Tell it to yourself, “I am strong.” Though I might have fallen seven times, I am rising up again. Those who are rejoicing in my suffering are about to be put to shame, for the Lord is coming through for me again.

The suffering of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. There is a glory that is going to be revealed in us, that will make those who do not know Jesus to believe in Jesus through us. It is happening today, this week, this month.

So, I will worry less about my present suffering. I will worry no more about my present suffering. I will rise and rejoice and worship because of the glory that is about to be revealed in me, for God is making all things new for me.
