ALL THINGS NEW

Preacher:
Series:
Passage: Revelation 21:1-5

We give God the praise for bringing us to the end of this series. We started with “Worship Him All Ye Gods,” to “The Present Suffering,” “The Future Prosperity,” and last week we talked about “When God Shows Up.”

Today by His grace, we are bringing this series to an end as we trust the Lord for the coming month, and what we shall be talking about is “ALL THINGS NEW.”

When you heard about this, I believe the first question that would run through your mind is, what happened to the old things? Why do we yearn for the new things? It is because old things are meant to be discarded while we look forward to the new ones.

I once talked about how people who have the capacity look forward to changing their wardrobes. Some after three months, some every year, because they are no longer interested in the old things.

And bringing it off the physical perspective, the Lord God we serve is a God of new things. Even though we call Him Ancient of Days, that does not limit the fact that He is new every single second. His mercy is fresh every morning. His love never fades but renews every time.

That said, everyone looks forward to a new thing. As the world evolves by turning round and round, we know in it we can see the newness of the day every single day. No day has been used or lived before, and that is because of the ordinance of newness that has been proclaimed for the day and also for the night.

And so it ought to be for every believer, for there is an eternal renewal that ought to have begun in the life of every believer. Because, using the same term of all things new, Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”

So there is a paradox that seems hard to be true about how all things ought to be new for believers. However, Christians today are living in the old self, and that was why I said a couple of parts back that we see believers who are still living in their old vessel but crying for a new wine in their old vessel and vice versa.

And even though sometimes we try our best to make sure that we live in the newness of life, newness of grace, newness of His mercy, we still fall short because of how frail we are as children of God.

Hence the reason Jesus was sent to us to open our eyes to the newness that surpasses our understanding, for Jesus is the One who is the Creator of these new things, and He is the One wiping away the old heaven and old earth so as to make available to us the new heaven and the new earth.

Come on, somebody, there is a renewed world that will not merely restore Eden’s conditions but will stand as the perfected dwelling place of God with His chosen people. And that is why those who trust in God must not see themselves as hopeless in this world of chaos, for within them, God is making all things new.

The newness that will make them forget their sorrow and unrest. Beloved, God is going to make all things new for us, and in the course of making all things new, God is saying, the sea will be no more. The sea will not be included. Why? Because the sea signifies chaos, evil, separation, among other things.

So in other words, when God makes all things new for you, all that has been bringing chaos to you, spiritually and physically, that which is bringing separation between you and God will be no more. And the absence of those things will only mean two things: permanent peace which will be restored, and it will also mean the end of division between you and God.

Come on, somebody, God has declared to make all things new for us. This newness suggests freshness, and the time to dive into these new things is now. The new heaven and earth, the new Jerusalem that was prophesied by John is not only for the time Jesus is going to show up in the sky, but the new heaven and the new earth is meant to be in your heart, in you.

So if you have not been seeing the new things as foretold, this word of God is for you this morning. And if you already felt it before but not any longer, I can assure you that this morning God is going to pay you a visit by making the old ones in you pass away.

There is a holy city coming down, a new Eden that has been prepared for you so that you will no longer experience obsolescence, outdated life anymore, beloved. It is the promise of God towards the bride, and it will be fulfilled from now until Jesus comes.

Instead of shame and pain dwelling with you, instead of affliction and sorrow dwelling with you, God will dwell with you again, somebody. The tabernacle of disappointment and disgrace will be far away from you, and the tabernacle of Yahweh will dwell with you.

This is some of what happens when God makes all things new for you, and this is what God has for us right here and now, beloved. God is making all things new in His Son Jesus Christ for us, somebody.

Tell the weak that he is strong. Tell the wearied that God is giving agility again. Tell those who are antiquated that they are receiving recognition again. It does not matter how much the gold is wrapped up in dirt. It will come clean again when it is washed.

Jesus is washing us and making us new, making all things new for us so that we will not remain in obsolescence, beloved. He is wiping away all tears from our eyes. So tell it to those who mourn that God is making all things new.

Tell it to those who are in pain, those who cannot take it anymore, that the Lion of Judah is making old things pass away—old things such as pain and sorrow, wilderness and desert, failure and disappointment, death and hades. Jesus is making them pass away, and behold, He is making all things new again.

And as the sea will be no more, whatever means unrest, danger, separation, and forces opposed to God’s order in your life will be absent from the new creation God is declaring inside of you and its removal declares the final end of chaos, evil, and every barrier that has divided you from peace and fellowship.

What is that new thing you are looking forward to, somebody? The One who sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.

Is. 65:17ff
