WHEN GOD SHOWS UP
We give God the praise for the fourth part in our series “All Things New,” and today we shall be talking about “When God Shows Up.”
This is a phrase of expectation to have you look forward to a future moment of what God is about to do, of when God will act on your behalf. It is also a phrase of amazement when people look back and see what God has done.
“When God shows up” is a word that makes us continuously put our hope in God for new things to come as it expresses hope in difficult situations. It helps us wait for a miracle and helps show our faith that God’s help is on the way.
And those who are waiting on the Lord never stop looking forward to when God will show up in their lives—perhaps in the midst of not knowing what to do, in the midst of loneliness, in the midst of trying to find a way out.
Those who feel like they have been cast off, those whom God was angry at, those whose life has been damaged, those to whom the enemy taunts and the like, and whose feathers have been broken or cut off, those who have been trampled upon—
Even though sometimes they might have been the reason for their own detriment, they still look unto God to show up again. And that was what the psalmist called Asaph wrote as a contemplation here because the same God he knew seems far away from him.
For the protection they earlier received in God was no longer found. The refuge they believed to own in God is no longer found, and he began to contemplate if God will show up again.
Sometimes we find ourselves in deep mess that makes us question if God is still for us or against us—the type that makes us see every hope in Christ as vain hope because we do not believe that God will show up again.
Sometimes the inability to see our signs shows that we have been abandoned. When what used to work for us is no longer working for us becomes the reason for us to contemplate, but the news I have for someone this morning is that God is showing up for you again to bring strength, comfort and rescue to you somebody.
The level of atrocities committed by the devil towards us every single day alone can make us feel like God is no longer on our side. The persecution we face every single day, the afflictions against us and the oppressions from our adversaries can make us feel like God is no longer on our side
And just like the Israelites mourned the loss of the visible tokens of God’s favor after the atrocities committed towards them and the sanctuary, many people are also mourning the loss of the visible tokens of God’s favor. They are mourning because they could not see their signs again, the sign of God’s favor on their life, in their home and all that matters.
But one thing that is for certain is this: our God is the Champion and He will show up again and when God shows up, you will dance and sing again. It does not matter how much you might have been defiled or destroyed. When God shows up, you will blossom again.
You must know that God’s silence did not mean that He has abandoned you. God’s silence did not mean that His covenant over your life has been terminated. Truly, you may not see Him at the moment. It might be as if He is sleeping on your situation, and the enemy might have thought that they have total control to damage everything.
But please know this at the back of your mind that God is showing up to you. If He has done it before, He will do it again, and He will show up to you. I want to let you know that there are divine interventions and miracles that serve as evidence of God’s presence and action among His people.
And even though you might not have felt it before, today God is showing up to divinely intervene on your situation so that you may begin to experience and see new things. For this we know that the shocking revelation of when God shows up enlightens the forgotten and the forsaken.
The shocking revelation of when God shows up makes the dry bones rise again, makes the sea be divided for His people to cross, makes the heads of leviathan be broken into pieces.
So when God shows up for you, the oppressed will be free from oppression. Justice will be given to the humiliated. And you will see God raising you above your enemies. I am here to tell you that it is enough of the contemplation, it is enough of being downtrodden, but rather you must know that God has His stake over your life, and all you gotta do is to ask Him to remember His stake in your life and why He must show up on your behalf.
Some of us do not have a good reason for God to show up on our behalf, and that’s why God is yet to show up. Some of us do not know how to remind God of the good things He has done for us in the past, and that is why He is not taking us seriously to do new things once again.
Somebody today, remember how God has come through for you, giving you victory before your enemies. You must keep rehearsing God’s past deliverances while waiting for present help. If He has done it before, He is still the same God, and He will do it again. You might not have been seeing signs, but God is lifting up His feet to address the situation in your life, beloved.
When God shows up, it’s going to be a new day, a new you, a new season.
Those who say, “Where is your God?” your adversaries reproaching you, the enemy blaspheming the name of God in your life—forever will they have no choice but to bow before you for the Lord has shown up.
