HIS WORD, MY GUIDE
As we all know that children of God have no other means to walk in a righteous path but to walk in the light of the Lord, to walk in the law of the Lord, because that is our number one source of navigation. The reason why God gave us His Word, Jesus, and also put His words together for us precept by precept is because He knows that it is through His Words that we can be guided in the course of our journey in life.
This was exactly how the Lord laid the foundation for Adam and Eve, for Abraham, and the household of Israel so as to learn to live as God’s holy people. The psalmist from where we read also described the word of God as a great blessing, for it was God’s gracious revelation to His people for their own good. Amen.
In God’s word, God mercifully pointed out the right path to follow for as many as those who will listen so that we do not become lost in our way as we journey through life. He made us understand that in His Word, either the Bible or His Word, Jesus, is where we can live, move, and have our being.
And the expectation as God would want it is for us to be guided through His Word, for there is no successful route to a destination without the knowledge of a route or a map to guide you there.
You will wonder why an 11-day trip for the household of Israel became 40 years for them. Had it been they knew the way themselves, they would have just kept going till they got to Canaan, but because they knew they were embarking on a journey they had never been on before, they had to submit themselves to what the Lord would say. They had to submit themselves to God’s word.
And that is why in God’s word, they made moves, they stopped and also made tents, because without this, even though they wanted to rebel and move, they would encounter enemies on their way and they would have been defeated by the enemies as some of them did anyway and were defeated (Numbers 14:44).
So to be guided in life, in the midst of all that we do, I would say making use of God’s word is critical and essential for our daily use. For the Word of God basically means instruction or direction. It refers broadly to all God’s instructions from Moses to the prophets and also in Jesus, and that is why I called it a guide.
The Word of God is our guide so that we don’t fall into the ditch, so that we don’t regret our actions, so that we do not become defiled in the way, so that we do no iniquity, so that we do not become ashamed and disgraced.
Many have lost their way because they do not believe in what the Word of God says. They do not find interest in the Word of God. They don’t want God to lead the way for them but rather they want to follow their instinct, what science says, what the world says.
As children of God, we do not have any other guide but the Word of God, and that is why I am using this opportunity to tell us to make the Word of God our one and only guide.
In my little knowledge of the Bible, I have come to a conclusion that there is nothing you are looking for in life that you would not find an answer to in God’s Word, the Bible, and how much more when we give Jesus the opportunity to live within us and speak to us as a Father to child does.
We do not have the map to navigate through our day, let alone the whole week, months, and years ahead of us, but listening to the instructions of the One who knows the end from the beginning is the beginning of wisdom for us.
For without the Word of God, many will become defiled on the way. Many will become casualties in the way. Many would get stuck in the way. Many would be swallowed up by the evil that is sufficient for the day.
But for someone who wants to finish well, finish strong, have a peaceful journey in the middle of the storm, become successful and move to the next course of your journey with abundance and plunder and more, you need the word of God to be your guide.
So let us walk in the law of the Lord, for it is in this Word we will become blessed. When He speaks to us in His Word and we keep what He is telling us diligently, then we will become blessed in all ramifications more than those who look for answers outside the Word of God.
Beloved, we are sojourners in this world, and we do not know our stops. We only go through what we call our plans for the day, but no one is guaranteed a safe passage. No one is guaranteed a sure tomorrow. Sometimes we even get hurt, but God in His love brought us out from becoming wiped out.
We most of the time make our moves by fluke and luck. Sometimes it works for us, sometimes it doesn’t, but there is a place we can find assurance of 100 percent safety and blessings—it is in His Word.
If we can submit ourselves to be guided by His Word, there is an assurance of a happy ending, safe gliding in the middle of the storm. I don’t know how relevant you are to the Word for a guide, but you can up your game today. Get closer to the Word. Hear what the Lord would speak before leaving home every morning. Ask God before asking men what would be the next course of action. While everyone comes into agreement about a thing, before consenting, ask God what is needed to be done.
In the midst of all these, your ways will be pleasing to the Lord and the Lord will not hesitate to guide you successfully in a route free of hurdles.
The secret to the path of righteousness, holiness, and to become blessed is what is in His Word. Get stuck in it and see lines falling in pleasant places for you. Amen!
