What is the mixed multitude? These are attachments that ought not to be part of someone’s journey but find a way to penetrate someone’s life and journey with them. They are called mixed multitudes because their purpose is to mix up with a settled life to bring unsettling. Their purpose is to bring war into a peaceful home.

They work with the spirit of seduction so as to seduce and lure someone, a group, or a nation into sin and abomination so that those who have been favored by God may become disfavored and arouse the anger of God over their lives.

And this mostly happens when the enemy wants to stop people from reaching beyond limitation. It happens when they have tried their best to get rid of someone, but they discover that the power backing such a person, group, or nation up is stronger.

They do come as obstacles, delays, annoyances, devourers, and side attractions that lure people into disobedience so as to shift someone’s focus from Yahweh. And how do the mixed multitudes make this happen?

What they do is to look for a taboo, a cause for abomination, actions and behaviors that will displease the higher power backing you up, so that they stop backing you up and become angry with you, and that alone could be a reason many could not reach beyond as God wills because the mixed multitude are their limitations.

Looking at the life of the Israelites in their journey to the promised land, we see a generation that received God’s backing, a generation that saw the outstretched hand of God working wonders for them, a generation whom God blessed and also stood by the blessings so that no one could curse them.

However, in the midst of the awesome wonders of God that had been displayed among these folks, they were not vigilant enough to avoid any familiarity with those God earlier blocked from cursing them.

For the Bible made known to us how Balak hired Balaam to lay a curse on the people of God in Numbers 23 and 24, but because God was on their side, every curse laid on the house of Israel would not stand.

And after many tries, going from one mountain to another without success, Balaam gave counsel to Balak that the only way he could defeat the house of Israel was to turn their back against their God by luring them into sinning against God.

So a seductive scheme was put in place via women who invited the men of Israel to worship an idol, which is an abomination to God, for it is written in Exodus 20:3 in the Ten Commandments that “You shall have no other gods before Me.” But unfortunately, what the men of Moab could not do to defeat God’s people, the women of Moab successfully came in as mixed multitude to win the heart of the men of Israel in sexual immorality and false worship, and they were caught in the trap of idolatry.

You know, even though you cannot be smarter than the one watching you, you must by all means have your eyes peeled so that mixed multitude do not journey with you in pretense, knowing fully well that they are coming to destroy you.

One of the schemes of the enemy called the devil and its agents towards us, after they have tried to get to us and they could not because they have seen that we are surrounded by the protection of the Lord, after they have discovered that our progress and victory we are having all around is because of God’s backing, is that they will invite the mixed multitude such as list, covetousness, greed and the likes into our lives so as to wrong our God.

To turn our back against God by luring us into sin, through disobedience, through detestable activities and abominations, for one of the major ways God’s strength and protection can be withdrawn from someone is when you start chasing after abominations.

Hence the reason we must have our eyes peeled. In other words, be vigilant enough, for the devil is roaming around like a roaring lion looking for whom to devour. And the question here is, how would you reach beyond his limitation when you have been devoured by his dominant mixed multitude?

Maybe through our carelessness, we have allowed the mixed multitude to be part of our relationship. So, rather than breaking up with your loved one, why don’t you just break up with what causes quarrel between you and your loved one? That thing that makes you quarrel with your loved one is a mixed multitude that mixes up with your feelings, life, and all that, and because you allow it, you made it feed you negative thoughts that make you want to fight all day.

If we do not break up with them, they will break us into pieces. They are only with us to deceive us, bringing evil communication into our lives so that they can corrupt our good manners.

The mixed multitude will make you offend God, sin against Him, make you offend those who love you, who are supposed to lift you up. They destroy destiny. They hinder people from reaching beyond, from getting to their promised land. They know they cannot get there, but you who are focused to get there, they will make sure that you do not make it as well.

What are the Ammonites and the Moabites that are coming into our lives just like the way the Israelites had them in their assembly then? We must let go of them so that Christ can accept us back to His Kingdom.

If you are not willing to break up with what makes you go against God’s command, it will be hard for you to continuously have God’s backing when the enemy comes in like a flood.

I do not know what you must have fallen in love with right now, or have interest in, or the things that have fallen in love with you or are interested in you. It is time to break up with them because one thing you must remember is that you are a Holy Seed (Ezra 9:2).

A Holy Seed will not mingle with a secular way of life. You should not allow bad friends to corrupt your good manners. You must always be a watchman so that you will not fall into their tricks whenever they try to penetrate into your life. Perhaps you have forgotten that you are a Holy Seed. So, as a Holy Seed you must break up with whatsoever is secular, unsacred, profane, and that will make you automatically reach beyond them.

Phinehas zealously reached beyond and stopped the anger of the Lord on the house of Israel. You can stop this harassment as well, beloved, by separating yourself from every activity, every spirit that represents mixed multitude in your life because if we don’t, they will bring plagues into our lives, homes, and marriages.

Prayer Point: Lord, separate me from the mixed multitude today.
