LOST HOPE IS NOW FOUND

Preacher:
Series:
Passage: John 20:11-18

We cannot but give God the praise for resuscitating our hope, which is the reason why we can boast of a day like this. A day like this is a day where we receive boldness and courage that, among every other religion and the gods they worship, we, the Christians, not a religion, have hope more than them all.

Because what Jesus did, no other gods whom the world worshiped did either in heaven or on earth, and that is why the Bible says they worship what they did not know. The book of Isaiah 44:9 had mentioned that they worship a god that profits them nothing.

However, in Christ alone, our hope is found because even though it seemed as if our hope was lost when He was nailed to the cross and crucified for our sakes, He rose up on the third day, which gave us the opportunity to find our hope in Him again.

And the question I would like us to ask ourselves is, what if? What if Jesus did not die? What if we know His grave? What if death and Hades had their way? Then our hope would have been an empty hope, vague hope with nothing to show for it.

And that is the difference between us and those who do not know and believe in Jesus, and that is why they will do many foolish things which God is not involved in. For the only One sent by God to give salvation and redemption is no one but Jesus, and He came from heaven to earth, showed us the way, then was nailed to the cross to pay all our debt and rose again.

So this message coming to us this morning will give us the hope needed to know that we cannot reduce ourselves to those who do not know who they are, to those who do not know that Christ in us is our hope of glory. What the resurrection of Jesus that we celebrate its remembrance today did for us is to embolden us that we have a reason to celebrate and our hope is not hopelessness.

For if the enemy could not triumph over Jesus, we have a hope in Christ that the enemy will not triumph over us. Hence the reason we must give praise to the Most High God for not letting us be hopeless and helpless in who we see as our Lord and Savior.

Many hope in what they believe in, but their hope remains dormant forever. They thought their gods would save them, but their gods could not save themselves, let alone saving them, just like the book of 1 Kings mentioned that they cut themselves, they cried from morning till evening, but their gods traveled and forsook them.

But we serve a very big God who goes by the name Omnipresent 24/7/365, who never travels, who promised to be with us to the end of the ages. This God is the One we have come to serve and worship. He’s the God we’ve come to celebrate today.

For if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty. Your faith and my faith also is empty. But He died for your sin and my sin and rose up against death, telling us that all power in heaven and on earth has been given to Him.

And because we are now His children, we also benefit from the same resurrection power, irresistible grace, and more. So our hope is renewed and restored.

We people of this generation do not really know what it means for our Savior to die on the cross because we weren’t there when it happened, but Peter was. The disciples were. The part that was scary to me was in John 21 verse 3 when Peter said to the disciples, “I am going fishing,” and they said to him, “We are going with you also.”

Because they had nothing else to do at that point in time. Hope was lost. They didn’t know what else to do. They saw all their works, service to have become vain in Christ Jesus, but Jesus showed up and their lost hope was found.

No wonder Simon Peter in verse 7 plunged into the sea because he could not wait to see Jesus again.

Are there any places in your life that you are yet to see the resurrected Jesus? Are there any places in your home and all that pertains to you where you are yet to see Jesus? I am here to announce to you that Jesus is alive, and there is no place or space too small that He will not fit in to reveal His resurrection power in your life.

So this morning, be like the fish that has mistakenly left the water and begun to lose consciousness and feels the water touching her again, but quickly summons herself to swim back to the water because at that point when the water touches her, she was revived.

In other words, let this celebration revive your lost hope. Let your hope be found in Christ Jesus again. Do not let His silence be interpreted as hopelessness in you, for He is with you everywhere you go.

Celebrate Him even though you are yet to see His manifestation. He has risen but yet did not show Himself to Peter, and Peter thought, “What else are we doing here? Let’s go back to what we know how to do best before meeting Jesus.”

Many go back to their addictive life because they did not see hope in Jesus’ silence. Many mock God and call God nameS because Jesus did not come through when they believe it is the right time for Jesus to come.

But do not forget that Joseph was alive, well, great, and the second to the king of Egypt but was not known to Jacob, but once Jacob heard about Joseph’s well-being, his lost hope was found and he revived himself to go see Joseph.

Mary and Martha’s hope was found again after the presence of Jesus at the death of Lazarus.

The doubtful Thomas who was also hopeless found hope again in the resurrection of Jesus after Jesus’ revelation to him.

Perhaps all you need is just to see His revelation to you, but while you are yet in the waiting process, know that He is with you, and He will come through for you. For if death could not hold Him, if He silenced the power of the grave and hell, then He is still the same God who will make you find your hope in Him again.
